Fundraiser for World Wildlife Fund and Birch School Scholarship Fund
Our elementary group has been working really hard on their endangered species projects for our upcoming showcase. The students have all expressed feelings of extreme helplessness and sadness to find out so many amazing animals are on the endangered list.
We thought it would be awesome for them to be able to contribute to this important cause, and what could be better than reading!?
So with this in mind, we will be launching a read-a-thon starting on December 18th and running through January 11th and here is how you can help:
Students participating will be given reading logs in which they will record the books they read and amount of pages they read. They will also be given sponsorship forms for their family and friends to fill out and pledge how much money they will donate per page read for their student.
The money we raise in our read-a-thon will be split evenly between The Birch School’s scholarship fund, which helps to keep our tuition affordable for all who desire to learn with us, and the World Wildlife Fund which is the main resource our students used when researching their animals. Here is a little more about what this non-profit does and why we feel so strongly about contributing to their mission:
From the WWF’s site:
Who We Are-
For nearly 60 years, WWF has worked to help people and nature thrive.
As the world’s leading conservation organization, WWF works in nearly 100 countries. At every level, we collaborate with people around the world to develop and deliver innovative solutions that protect communities, wildlife, and the places in which they live.
Thank you so much for your support!
The Birch School Winter Break Read-a-Thon is a reading incentive program designed to motivate our children to read over our winter break and also raise some money for 2 great causes. 50% of the money collected will go to the school scholarship fund and the other 50% will go to the World Wildlife Fund to help save endangered species.
Students set a goal and read (or be read to) over a 24 day period from December 18th-January 11th.. Top Readers and Fundraisers will earn a new book. Thank you for supporting our students efforts to reach their goal and our efforts to promote reading!
There are two ways to pledge:
1. Pledge per minute or page: For example, you pledge $.10 for each minute the student spends reading. If the student reads 200 minutes, then the total pledge is $20. Or, pledge $.05 per page and the student reads 200 pages, the total pledge is $10.00.
2. Flat Amount: For example, you choose to donate a total of $20 regardless of the minutes or pages read.
At the end of Read-a-thon, a reminder email will be sent out to all sponsors at which time you can revisit this form to see how your student has done and total up your pledge. All donations can be paid directly to “The Birch School” by check ( 9 Vance Rd, Rock Tavern, NY 12575) or by PayPal. In the case of the latter, an invoice will be sent at the end of the read a thon.
